I was 17 years old before I ever rode in a car with a shoulder harness type seat belt. Before that very few cars had belts at all and then they were usually just lap belts in the front seats.
She will need a seat where the 5 point harness has shoulder strap slots that allow the straps to stay at or above her shoulders. Most seats will do this for a 37″ child… so you may want to double check the manual to your seat and make sure you really have the straps as high as they go (it can be tricky).
